The independent organization Climatop was set up by two non-profit organizations - Ökozentrum Langenbruck and Myclimate - to help consumers recognize products with the best climate protection performance. According to the Top Runner Concept applied by Climatop, products with the least GHG emissions in a category based on a life cycle assessment are labeled ‘approved by Climatop’. To qualify for the label, the product also has to fulfill other environmental and specific social standards. A detailed list of exclusion criteria is currently in development.
Currently, 46 products bear the label, and further negotiations are in progress. The list of labeled products covers hand dryers, batteries, nourishment, detergents, and other household goods. All labeled products are supplemented with a fact sheet and a critical review, all open to the public.
