The PCF World Forum is a neutral platform to share practical experiences and knowledge towards climate-conscious consumption. The international platform provides orientation in current standardisation processes and creates opportunities for discussing international corporate best practices to support low carbon and climate-conscious consumption models:

The PCF World Forum is a joint platform set up to foster and facilitate dialogue between international initiatives on how to assess, reduce and communicate the impact of goods and services on the climate.

Consumption of goods and services indirectly contributes to a large share of worldwide GHG emissions. Solutions are needed to help companies manage and communicate the impact of their products on the climate and general environment. They are also needed to provide consumers with information on a product’s climate impact to help them make climate-conscious purchase decisions.

A growing number of initiatives in different countries is addressing this issue

  • by developing standards for assessing carbon footprints and overall environmental performance of goods and services
  • by providing frameworks for reducing GHG emissions related to life cycles of goods and services
  • by working on suitable instruments for informing consumers and customers about climate-conscious consumption

The PCF World Forum presents examples of international approaches and initiatives aimed at encouraging climate-conscious consumption of goods and services.

Best practices can be identified and positive examples multiplied, accelerating the uptake of working solutions for climate-conscious consumption.

The PCF World Forum promotes identification of common methods and activities.

It is becoming increasingly clear that a common framework is needed for assessing and - to a certain extent - for communicating the exact climate impact of goods and services:

  • Multinational companies with supply chains across international borders need common standards to assess the impact of goods and services on the climate and environment and to avoid increased expenditure due to multiple standards.
  • Competition between products’ climate-friendly performance instead of between differing standards helps companies embrace change and build positive business cases moving towards a low carbon society.
  • To gain customer and consumer acceptance credible and concise information is needed across applications
